Is your soul thirsty?

….”My soul thirsts for God, for the living God”…. (Psalm 42.2)
The figure used by the psalmist to show the need he had of God is the thirst. No one can be for a long time without drinking water, it is vital to our body’s health. Thirst is our body saying we need to be hydrated to work properly.

Our spiritual “success” is not measured by the amount of positions we have in church or by the activities in which we are involved, but by the thirst we have for God.

If you don’t thirst for God, for knowing Him intimately, there is something wrong in your spiritual life. Jesus said: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink” (John 7:37). It is a constant act, we don’t drink water once a week or once a day, but a lot of times. Jesus basically wants to say that we need to comprehend how vital to our spiritual health is to continually drink from Him, otherwise we will be “dehydrated” spiritually.

Many are going through moments of spiritual dryness, they have no strength, they are discouraged and weak. Continually they ask God to provide a way out, but God already provided help: Jesus is the living water, who promised us spiritual vigor that is abundant life. We don’t need a new solution coming from God, it already came out! What we need is, throughout a daily communion with Jesus Christ, to drink from this wholesome water, in order to breakthrough barriers that interposes between us and our blessings.
